Programmable industrial battery discharger for safe discharge before recycling

AxiSAFE is an automatic industrial battery discharger that ensures controlled and safe discharge of batteries prior to ecological recycling.

The system is designed especially for the discharge of lithium (Li-ion) batteries before recycling, significantly reducing the risk of fire and minimizing residual energy in the cells.

AxiSAFE is designed for operation in industrial environments and recycling centres and allows continuous operation.

Do you need a safe battery discharge solution before recycling?

Operating principle

AxiSAFE controlledly extracts energy from the battery and, with high efficiency, feeds it back into the user’s internal power grid.

The recovered energy is consumed within the internal facility network.

In the event of a grid failure, the device automatically detects the condition and shuts down – no island operation is created.

The system can be equipped with up to 10 independent recuperation units for simultaneous discharge of multiple batteries.

Control and monitoring of the discharge process

AxiSAFE is equipped with a capacitive touch operator panel.

It allows:

  • setting of voltage, current and temperature limits
  • automatic or manual start of the discharge process
  • “Maximum discharge before recycling” mode (near-zero voltage discharge)
  • archiving of the last 32 discharge cycles
  • overview of cumulative data (Ah, kWh, number of cycles)
  • fault indication (e.g. reverse polarity, overheating, battery not dischargeable)

Control is handled by a Siemens PLC communicating with the units and the operator panel.

Operational safety

AxiSAFE is intended exclusively for indoor industrial environments.

The system includes protection against:

  • reverse battery polarity
  • battery overheating (discharge pause if temperature limit is exceeded)

It complies with IEC 61010-1 and IEC 61326-1 standards (safety and EMC).

Types and performance variants

AxiSAFE is available in several voltage and performance configurations.

  • maximum battery voltage: 60 VDC, 150 VDC, 300 VDC, 600 VDC
  • maximum discharge power: 800 W to 8000 W (depending on configuration)
  • configuration of 1–10 units
  • power supply 1×230 VAC or 3×400 VAC
